Excellence is in your hands. iwkfoundation.org Patient care and research go hand in hand. Dr. Jason Berman's unique research with zebrafish may one day result in a cure for childhood cancers. YOU ARE HELPING GRACIE ON HER JOURNEY. Gracie Bell (above) received her first round of chemotherapy on her first birthday. Born prematurely with Down syndrome and later diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia (AML), this beautiful little girl has proven she's a fighter. Gracie's parents remember the call they received from the IWK. The Oromocto, New Brunswick family would need to pack their bags as they would be spending six months at the IWK Health Centre during Gracie's cancer treatment. When you give to the IWK you are helping patients like Gracie receive world-class care right here in the Maritimes. Your gift, regardless of its size, has a direct and meaningful impact on patient care. "The IWK would not be the place it is today without donors. As both a physician and a scientist, I recognize the tremendous value of your contributions to support my preclinical research program that ultimately will improve the treatment and outcome of patients with childhood cancers, like Gracie," says Dr. Jason Berman. "Gracie represents the many Maritime children who require specialized care and ongoing research into her illness. We wouldn't have the same level of access without the generosity of IWK donors." Today, Gracie is home in New Brunswick and is an active and happy toddler. "To see Gracie you'd never know what she has gone through," says Tammie, Gracie's mother. "She's a healthy, happy and joyful little girl. We are so grateful to the IWK and its donors." Gracie will continue to visit the IWK for follow-up appointments – we hope you will continue to support her journey. Thank you for being there for Gracie and her family when they needed it the most.
