IWK patients, Kendra and Kinsey Fader, at the IWK. KENDRA & KINSEY CONTINUE TO BENEFIT FROM YOUR GENEROSITY You may remember Kendra and Kinsey Fader, our IWK Superstar ambassadors for ongoing monthly donors. Now eight years old, the twins continue to call the IWK their home away from home after being born extremely prematurely. As you read this update, Kendra will be getting ready to undergo two surgeries to help eliminate her stomach reflux and allow her stomach to empty at a more normal rate. She has always struggled with extreme reflux, as her stomach requires more than an hour to begin emptying, compared to a normal rate of 30 minutes or less. "Going ahead with this surgery was an extremely difficult decision to make," says mom, Laura. "We felt extremely respected and included in the decision-making process. It was a good example of family-centred care at the IWK." While this surgery will be long and complex, Kendra is very excited that the doctors will soon be fixing her tummy, so that she can eat birthday cake at parties and Halloween candy next year! Her sister, Kinsey, continues to struggle with seizures, experiences involuntary tics, and meets regularly with the neurology team at the IWK. Despite these and other challenges, Kinsey is thriving in school and is a happy and fun-loving girl. Kendra and Kinsey represent hundreds of patients who require the IWK for many years; their journey is ongoing and involves the Fader's entire extended family. "The impact of the IWK on us is simple," says their grandfather, Owen Evans. "We have twin grandchildren that we would not have if it wasn't for the IWK." Your ongoing monthly support is essential to patients, like Kendra and Kinsey. Thank you for being there throughout their journey.
